Polo, in the arena.

Three-a-side, in a sand arena enclosed by boards: polo at its fastest, closest and most spectacular. Arena Polo Club is the club founded in Rome and devoted solely to arena polo.

We bring arena polo to Italy’s squares, stadiums, harbours and beaches

The format

Small arena, fast pace

3

A side

Three riders per team: fewer players, more action, every play counts.

100 × 50

Metres, roughly

A sand field far smaller than a traditional polo field, which measures about 270 × 140 metres.

Sand

And boards all round

The ball bounces off the boards and stays in play: the action hardly ever stops.

Lights

Evenings too

With floodlights, play moves to summer evenings, when it is cool for the horses and people are free to come.

Why the arena

Polo that comes to you

Traditional polo needs a grass field of about 270 × 140 metres, almost always far from town. Arena polo does not: it is played on a much smaller sand field enclosed by boards, which can be set up for a few days in a stadium, in a square, on a quayside or on a beach, and then taken down, leaving the place just as it was.

Spectators are only a few metres from the horses, the action hardly ever stops and a match becomes an evening out for the whole town. That is why we chose to devote ourselves solely to arena polo.

The club

What we do

Learning to play

Taster days, a step-by-step school and clinics with qualified instructors, for those who already ride and want to discover polo.

Events

Evenings in the arena, seaside events, club tournaments: formats designed for towns and cities and for people who have never seen a match.

Arenas and venues

Stadiums, squares, harbours and beaches: we study the places where an arena can spring up and leave a good memory behind.

Horse welfare

Veterinary checks, rest, water and shade, evening play in hot weather: the horse comes before everything.

Arenas and venues

An arena can spring up almost anywhere

All it takes is a flat rectangle of about 100 × 50 metres, plus space for the horses, the spectators and services. That is why arena polo is the ideal sport for seaside towns and cities.

  • Stadiums and sports grounds
  • Historic squares
  • Quaysides and harbour areas
  • Beaches out of season

The horse comes first

A welfare charter that applies everywhere

Every horse that enters a club arena is identified, examined by a vet, trained and looked after by experienced people. How many chukkas it plays, its rest, water, shade and timings: we decide them with the horse in mind first.

  • Vet on site or on call during play
  • Matches moved to the evening when it is hot
  • Sand surface prepared and watered
  • A dignified retirement for polo horses

Sponsors and partners

Put your name in the arena

A new project, sporting and elegant, with the horse at its heart and the Italian tricolour in its emblem. We are looking for partners who share our values: event naming, technical partners, hospitality, media and local areas.
