Only arena polo, in Italian style
Arena Polo Club is the club founded in Rome and devoted solely to arena polo, the form of polo played three-a-side in a sand arena enclosed by boards. It is an initiative of ENSI Social APS, a social promotion association (associazione di promozione sociale) listed in the Registro unico nazionale del Terzo settore (RUNTS), the Italian national register of Third Sector organisations, which promotes and organises sporting, cultural and social events.
We have chosen a specific field: we do not do all of polo, we do the arena. It is the format best suited to taking polo beyond the private clubs, into squares, stadiums, harbours and beaches, close to people who have never seen it from just a few metres away.
Our mission
- Bringing arena polo to where people are: in towns and cities, in summer and in the evening, in temporary venues that are returned to how they were after the event.
- Developing new players, with a step-by-step school, qualified instructors and trained horses.
- Putting the horse first, with a welfare charter that applies to every activity.
- Building a community of players, enthusiasts, families and partners who share a style: sporting, elegant, welcoming.
- Showcasing the places that host us, with events that bring together sport, culture and tourism.
How it works
A section of ENSI Social APS
Arena Polo Club is not a separate organisation: it is a section of ENSI Social APS, which owns it and is responsible for it. This is laid down in the Section Regulations, approved by the Board of ENSI.
Who decides
The ENSI Board appoints the Section Manager and may appoint a Section Committee from among the members. Contracts, agreements and payments received always go through ENSI Social APS.
Who helps us
On the technical side, the club relies on a technical director qualified by FISE (the Italian Equestrian Sports Federation), a lead vet for horse welfare and an event safety officer.
How to take part
You can join as a playing, supporting or junior member, or take part as a non-member in taster days, clinics and open events. It is all in the Membership and Participation Rules.
In the world of polo, by the rules of polo
In Italy, polo, including arena polo, comes under FISE – Federazione Italiana Sport Equestri (the Italian Equestrian Sports Federation), through its Polo Department; internationally, it comes under the FIP – Federation of International Polo. Arena Polo Club is not a federation and does not write rules of play: it adopts the regulations of FISE and FIP and adds only the rules of conduct for the club and its events.
For sporting activities, we work with clubs and organisers affiliated to FISE, or we affiliate ourselves in accordance with federal rules. Only riders whose registration (licence) is in order and horses that comply with veterinary rules may play.
Our values
Fair play
Loyalty towards opponents, umpires, grooms and spectators. In the arena we play hard, but we play clean.
The horse comes first
No result is worth a horse’s health. The vet can stop play at any time.
Safety
Helmets with face guards, knee pads, boots, checked boards and surface, medical cover at every event.
Openness
An elegant sport, not an exclusive one: taster days, activities for young people, open-entry events whenever possible.
Local places
Events that leave places as we found them and bring visitors out of season.
